Bag Them Up

We are working our way towards a plastic free home, and reusable products are one of the best ways we’ve found to reach that goal. It’s not a cheap feat, but working a little at a time gets us closer.

Bumkins seeks to make the lives of moms and dads easier through the products they offer. Their fun and innovative products are responsibly made; they support the developing needs and milestones of littles. The category of products include bibs & smocks, feeding, teething, diapering, and reusable bags.

The reusable bags are available in many different sizes and prints. Specifically looking at the snack bags, there are two options – Small Snack Bag – 3.5 x 7 inches and Large Snack Bag – 7 x 7 inches.

We are able to reduce our waste and eliminate plastic a little easier with the Bumkins reusable bags. These waterproof, machine and dishwasher safe bags are the perfect addition to our kitchen. Soft and strong, the bags are lightweight, breathable, and quick drying.

The fabric used on the bags really sets them apart from other reusable bags. Satin and odor resistant, these bags are made to last. Every component within the product is tested for harmful substances. They are third party lab tested for food safety and are free of BPA, PVC, vinyl, phthalates, and lead. This is super important because my family is using these products to keep toxins out of our home.

Let me tell you, the fact that these bags are dishwasher safe and quick drying are a moms dream. I love that I can turn a bag inside out, stick it in the washer, and have a clean bag ready to use again.

We use these bags all the time.

For every picnic we pack multiples of our bags. Chips, vegetables, fruit, trail mix, and more have been some of our favorite uses for the Bumkins bags. They are perfect for packing in the cooler because they are virtually as light as a feather.

Many other reusable products are bulky and heavy but these bags are the complete opposite. Great for a mom carrying around a bunch of snacks!

The zippers are very strong and durable. They are smooth enough that even my three year old can open them. I love how kid friendly the bags are!

Animal Here, Animal There

In our home we have a lot of toys that are not very fun unless you use your imagination. I like keeping toys around that have a purpose. Whether that be learning, creating, imagining, exploring; the list could go on. Bottom line – I want my kids to be challenged while playing.

I want their play to purposeful.

We’ve slowly been working on collecting high quality animal figurines for our kids. Animals give our kids an endless amount of play.

The Schleich brand is one of my favorites for animal figurines.

The German company was founded in 1935 and is ‘the leading international provider of realistic animal figures.’ Schleich now offers six different themed worlds which include over 600 figures.

The Schleich figurines are all hand modeled and designed using photographs, drawings, or models found in books or images. Each figurine is molded by hand, examined, and then hand painted. Each step of the process is ensuring that the toys are high quality and non-harmful.

We love the Schleich brand for many reasons, one of them being that their belief is just what we’re striving for in our home. We also love Schleich because the materials used in all their figures are safe. They are all safety tested and meet strict national and international requirements. Their products really are high-quality and designed carefully. This keeps the child(ren) engaged and the parent happy.

I am just blown away by the amount of detail that goes into crafting these animals. They look so real! Just look at the detail on each of the figures and tell me you’re not impressed.

Safety in the Air

We all want our homes to be safe and protected for our families. Wether kids are in the home or not, we want to be breathing in good, clean air.

The little light in the top right corner shows you, by color, the Awair score. Using a color-coded scale from 0-100 you can know by the color wether your home has poor air quality (0) or high air quality (100).

The Awair monitor links to an app on your phone where you can track all these factors. The app shows improvements over time and allows you to see, in graph form, your air quality hour by hour, day by day.

There are two small buttons located on the back of the monitor which allow you to see the actual number reading of each of the key factors. The monitor also has an option to show the time, which I personally love.

Remember that low score I mentioned a little earlier, well here’s the end to my story.

After reading some tips in my Awair app, I remembered that I hadn’t changed our furnace air filter in awhile.

Sure enough, it had been four months since I had changed the filter. Whoops!

So after changing the filter our Awair score stayed at a consistent number – 80 on average!

This was enough to get me on board. It also helped me trust our air filter system – they really work!

Get yourself an Awair air quality monitor; you won’t regret it. And go change your furnace air filter; its probably been way too long since you’ve done it last.

Body Safe, Baby Safe

I’m always on the hunt for organic body products that I can use on myself, but more importantly on my babies. I believe that it is very important to know what we put onto our skin. We are delicate humans and we were not created to be using all the nasty, chemical filled products that sit on the store shelf.

That is why I am loving Yorba Organics.

One of the first differences I noticed when I started using the Yorba products was the color of their creams and lotions. Everything is colored an orange-tan color; much different than the products I’m so used to using. At first I was a little concerned – “Are these expired?”, I thought. But then I realized why they were ALL colored this way – their products are real! They are using pure ingredients so of course their products aren’t going to be stark white like most other lotions and creams. This really put me at ease. I knew from the beginning that their products were legit.

Stretch Mark Cream

I just had baby number two on September 29 and let me tell you, stretch mark cream was a necessity while I was pregnant. With my first child I used a brand of cream that was very oily. It literally stained everything it touched; I had to make sure I wore old clothes I didn’t care much about when putting it on. Quite the annoyance.

This cream though, has no oily feel at all. It’s comparable to lotion or body butter – pretty thick. It rubs on super well and soaks into the skin perfectly. I don’t even need to wash my hands after using it! I totally recommend this Stretch Mark Cream to any soon to be mamas.

Baby Foam Bath

My son loves this baby foam bath. We put it in his bath and he absolutely loves the bubbles. He even started to eat the bubbles at one point! I did ask him stop eating the soap but was not at all worried. I trust the ingredients!

The foam creates a lot of suds which makes bath time even more fun for baby. Simply pump the bottle a few times under the running water and watch the suds form!

The smell of the foam is very attractive. Many different oils are used in the foam which creates the yummy scent. Marula is the key ingredient and is perfect for all skin types. It is very mild and gentle – just what we want for our babies!

Baby Wash and Shampoo

This stuff rocks. When we took my son out of the bath the first thing I noticed was his hair. It was drying perfectly; seriously his hair was so soft and fluffy! I love how the shampoo and body wash are combined into one product. Why buy them separately when you can get them together!

Diaper Cream

I was very interested in how the diaper cream was going to work. My son gets a rash where the diaper rubs his inner thigh and it is always so hard to get rid of. We’ve tried multiple diaper creams, oils, and powders and nothing seems to clear it up. After using the Yorba diaper cream for about a week and a half, his rash has cleared up! I’m seriously so impressed!! The Mafura butter, a key ingredient, is easily absorbed by the skin creating a fast acting cream.

We cloth diaper in our house and finding a cream that is safe to use with cloth has proved to be quite the struggle. This Yorba diaper cream is zinc – free so it is 100% cloth diaper safe. Love it!!

Body Lotion

My husband used the body lotion before I got a chance to and let me tell ya, he loves it. His first comment about it was the color, which I briefly explained to him and he gladly accepted. As he was rubbing the lotion on his hands he mentioned to me that he got way too much. The amount he used was about the size of a nickel – a pretty normal about of lotion. But this lotion is powerful stuff! He was rubbing it onto his forearms because he had too much of it. The lotion is super absorbent and very hydrating. Hubby only had to use it twice before seeing a noticeable difference in his chapped hands!

Get Smart with Baby PhD

Just a few weeks ago my husband, me, and our son took a trip to see my family. The county fair was going on and I just love it. Spending time with my parents and siblings is always so great, but the fair weekend made it even better. Why? The food of course!

We spent most of our time out at the fair eating, people watching, and checking out the animals. My parents live out in the country so going to their house is always quite the change from our faster paced suburban living life. The fair is smack-dab right in the middle of farm country. What I’m getting at is that it’s super dirty.

I was going back and looking at photos I took while we were visiting and I came across the one on the left. One of my first thoughts was – man that table must have been really gross and dirty. That is probably why my husband is feeding my son french fries out of a bucket! Tons and tons of people ate off the table before we sat down and – germs galore!

Normally when we go out to a restaurant I clean the table pretty well with sanitizing wipes, but I didn’t even think about doing that in this situation (not smart, mama). I was hungry and ready to take a break! So we sat down and ate our food, dirty table and all.

If only there was a solution to this messy, dirty table problem!

I recommend pressing down around all four sides to be sure the mat is completely stuck. With the four sided sticky strips the mat stays in place until you’re ready to peel it off the table.

One of my favorite features of the mats is that they fold up so small – they hardly take up an space in the diaper bag. They come individually folded in the package, so you just need to pull a few and place them in the diaper bag. Then you’re all set and ready to pull them out one at a time. They hardly weigh anything too, so no need to worry about adding extra weight to the diaper bag!

Shopping Made Easy

Any mom can testify that shopping with a baby is a difficult and challenging task. The Binxy Baby hammock is seriously the perfect shopping accessory. I love how easy it is to install; just strap it onto the cart. With one hand you can snap it on and strap it around the sides however, I do recommend using two hands just to ensure extra safety and security. The hammock fits on almost any shopping cart too! Our Target has those big plastic shopping carts that are difficult to use some baby products with; but the Binxy Baby hammock fits perfectly. You can use it on any part of the cart too!

The hammock is so great for kiddos to relax in. While baby Penny was in the hammock she was getting fussy, but once we started moving she got quiet right away. It’s almost like an actual hammock for adults!

e-cloth Review

Created in 1995, e-cloth is Europe’s number one chemical free cleaning company. Used with only a cloth and water this company has completely taken the toxins and chemicals out of cleaning. Their microfiber cleaning technology provide superior cleaning power on almost anything in the home.

E-cloth stands out from other cleaning brands because of the tiny size of their cloth fibers. These fibers strands are smaller than the diameter of a human hair which allows their to be millions of fibers in each cloth. When being produced, the polyester fibers are split like a pie forming eight “slices” and the polyamide fibers are cut to create an axil with eight spokes. The two fibers are then combined to form one joint piece – the polyester fibers fitting into the polyamide fibers. You can see this in the photo. This brilliant technology allows for dirt, bacteria, dust, grease, etc. to be picked up and locked in the fibers. Not until you wash or rinse the cloth does all the dirtiness escape.

Luxury Hooded Bath Towels

The name says it all with these hooded bath towels-luxury is no lie. These towels are incredibly soft and oh so fuzzy. With two sizes to choose from your baby can enjoy these towels from birth to five years (depending on size of course). E-cloth has three design options to choose from. The picture on the right shows two of the options-the other is a pink hood with white stars; perfect for a little girl!

The luxury towel dried my son so well. Compared to the average cotton bath towels these are awesome. After bath time I felt like I could actually wipe off the water from his body. Sometimes with the cotton towels I feel like I have to dab off the water because wiping just moves the water around; that’s not how I want my towels to work. We have to move fast to keep our son happy after a bath so the absorbency of these towels are a lifesaver. The polyester and polyamide (nylon) materials are the perfect combination to create the soft cozy feeling we all want after a bath. Too bad they only come in kid sizes! 😉

Home Starter Kit

Three cloths will get you a long way while cleaning around the house. The home starter kit is the perfect cleaning agent for your everyday messes. Their home starter kit comes with a bathroom cloth (blue), general purpose cloth (purple), and a glass and polishing cloth (tan). The bathroom cloth will remove grime, soap scum, water, and most importantly bacteria from surfaces like the shower and counter. With the general purpose cloth you’ll be cleaning every surface possible; picking up dirt, grease, and oil and leaving nothing behind. My favorite cloth – the glass and polishing cloth takes finger prints and smears away from windows, mirrors, and other shiny surfaces. This cloth is so great at picking up light grease that is left from fingers touching things that should shine.

I had quite the experience using the bathroom and glass cloths cleaning up my sons pee off the window his changing table sits in front of. I wiped the window down with the bathroom cloth first to clean it and pick up the majority of the pee – I got the cloth wet with water first. Then I used the glass cloth to take the smears away; the window is perfectly streak free now. I love that cloth!

Hand and Face Cleaning Kit

This 13 piece kit is perfect for parents who are always on the go. The cleaning kit includes one carry pouch, one spray bottle, one laundry bag, and 10 hand and face cleaning towels. The carry pouch is super cute and is perfect to keep in the diaper bag, glove box, or around the house. When you need to clean your child up just pull out a towel, spray with water and wipe their hands or face. It’s super easy and really convenient. The laundry bag is a really awesome idea, but I didn’t (and won’t) use it. I cloth diaper so I already have a wet bag I keep in the diaper bag, this is what I put my dirty, wet towels in. If you don’t cloth diaper though, the laundry bag will be helpful. When you’ve used a cloth and it’s dirty and wet you don’t want to put it back into the pouch – thats what the laundry bag is for. Put all your wet, grimy towels in it and keep it separated from the clean ones.

Although there is another step in using this kit (spraying the towel) I think it’s completely worth my while. I am skeptical of all the wipes on the market right now – are they really safe for my baby? Using this cleaning kit I don’t have to worry about that at all; it’s just water and a towel. I am for sure keeping this kit in my diaper bag from now on; there are endless possibilities for clean up when it comes to kids. You should carry one too!

Wonder bumpers ensure safety and security for your child as they sleep. This new alternative bumper design takes worries away as your child not only stays protected but has the ability to receive the optimal air flow they need. Different than your average crib liner, Go Mama Go wonder bumpers fit vertically around each individual crib rail – removing suffocation risks.

With a downward zip motion you don’t have to worry about your child taking the bumper off. If you install correctly the zipper will be hidden between the mattress and rail, and out of reach for your child. The bumpers fit all most any crib rail; flat or round. Just be sure your rails aren’t any wider than 3 inches. Created for a safe, snug fit, they are very stretchable and compress well. You can even zip two bumpers together to fit over corners and wider rails.

My experience with the wonder bumpers has been great so far. When I received them in the mail I pulled them out right away to take a look them. I was pleased with how soft and cushy they were at first touch. The foam inside is not certified organic but the foam padding is lined with hypo-allergenic material which is encased in the organic cotton. This takes away the worries of my son chewing on the bumpers.

The bumpers are super easy to put on your child’s crib. It took me about ten minutes to zip each bumper on. The toughest part of putting the bumpers on was that I had to squeeze them around the bars between the mattress. Not until after I was finished did I think about taking the mattress out in order to zip the bumpers on. With all that being said, I recommend taking the mattress out of your baby’s crib before zipping on all the bumpers. Be sure to zip the bumpers down on the crib rails. Doing this ensures that your baby won’t grab at the zipper and try to take the bumpers off.

I also love that the bumpers wrap individually around each crib rail. I was always nervous about putting a bumper in my sons crib because I was worried of him suffocating with his mouth against the bumper. These wonder bumpers take all those worries away. Baby’s sleeping environment is safe, comfortable, and he’s protected.
