I could write a whole article on why Lil Helper Cloth Diapers but I feel they’ve already make a pretty good case on their website.

But If you want the short version:

Almost 3 years ago MamatheFox did a review on Lil Helper. Two years later I started experimenting with cloth diapers and got all of MamatheFox’s hand-me-downs. I was given one Lil Helper diaper and immediately I wanted more! I loved the fit, bamboo inserts, and system of using the liner multiple times.

Which how awesome is it that I fell in love with a second hand diaper!

It definitely sheds light on the life span of Lil Helper and their quality.

Recently Lil Helper upped their fluff game and not only made their diapers even more dependable, which I didn’t think was possible, but also started making a variety of products for all babies, not just cloth diapered.

Charcoal Cloth Diaper

Now sometimes it is scary when a company you love makes changes. There is definitely hesitation and sometimes resistance from us stubborn folks. If it ain’t broken why fit it right?

However, I also highly appreciate companies always trying to be better. Lil Helper engineered a beloved cloth diaper that is working great, yet they stay diligent to keep up with technology and assure customers they are providing the best. Lil Helper recently redesigned their diapers to have a higher back.

It definitely gives my very tall daughter extra coverage and protection, while still fitting close to her body comfortably. She is a very active toddler that is always on the move…or climb. With a higher back I feel her bum stays in and all the nastiness can’t come out.

As for the rest of the diaper, it has all the same great features Lil Helper promises.

Each diaper comes with 2 inserts that attach to the diaper cover with snaps. There are two reasons I love this feature so much. First because the chore of “stuffing” cloth diapers is eliminated. Snapping inserts in a diaper is very quick and self explanatory. I have no worries if the insert is wrinkled or if wiggly baby girl is going to displace the insert and have a mega leak. Secondly, laundry is so much easier. I don’t have to fear reaching into the dark pee filled diaper cave to separate diaper from insert.

Oh and my favorite reason (which I guess makes 3 reasons)…

My husband voluntarily does diaper laundry, and I let him! He has a strong distaste for pulling out inserts and I have a mini panic micromanaging attack every time he tries to help stuff diapers. Since Lil Helper is so user friendly he happily unsnaps diapers for washing and perfectly assembles diapers for wearing.

Day made!

Lil Helper has a variety of diaper inserts that meet the needs of your cloth diapering preferences. And of course, all their inserts are interchangeable with Lil Helper’s adorable diaper shells. From bright solid colors, to playful graphic prints, you are sure to find a style to match your little fashionista.

Cloth Wipes

Now I have to admit I am still working on my reusable cloth wipe game. I go back and forth on whether or not I’m sold on the idea. Lil Helpers sells a 4 pack of two layer bamboo cotton/micro-fleece wipes. They are made with same great quality and materials as their diapers. I loved the size and absorbency of the wipes and was especially impressed with how soft they’ve stayed after multiple washes. The super soft wipes are so gentle on baby’s bums and have multiple uses. I’ve used them for wiping noses, bath time, and sticky hand clean up. The affordable pack of 4 would make an excellent gift for any mama whether they cloth wipe or not.

Reversible Bandana Bibs

A new addition to Lil Helper’s collection is bandana bibs! If you have a baby then you definitely have drool problems. With three gender neutral prints, these adjustable bibs are perfect for any baby, or dog!

I have also been a big user on baby bandanas because they keep my little one fashionable while still fulfilling their purposes. In the winter bandanas are a great layer of warmth and protection where a coat might not cover.

A waterproof layer is sewed in-between the printed cotton and micro-fleece, keeping kids dry all day. I especially liked the soft micro-fleece option when my kids are sick. As gross as it may sound, I’ve caught a lot of snot with the fleece side. It is soft on their skin and easily assessable. As moms know, there is about a two second gap between a runny nose and kids doing something disgusting with their snot!

During that wonderful stage when babies leave their mouth open and the drool pours out by the gallon (how can one child hold that much liquid!?) bandana bibs save laundry and the hassle of changing shirts. They are also great during teething when again it seems like the drool is never ending.

Bamboo Change Mat

Another great addition to the Lil Helper collection is their organic Bamboo Change Mats. If you enjoy Lil Helper diapers then you will also love their bamboo change mat. It’s huge area of 86cm X 91cm can be used in a crib or spread out on a toddler’s bed.

Made with only the best fabric, this mat is pesticide, bleach, BPA, leads and heavy metal free. The medical grade waterproof material sandwiched between the layers of bamboo absorbs 10 time its weight in water. The bamboo/cotton on both sides is organic and provides soft cushioning.

We’ve used this mat for multiple uses such as a play mat, sleeping area, a cushion, and a protective layer in a hard travel crib before we got our and pack n play mattress. We also used it to protect my couch when my son had the flu.

For easy cleaning pop this pre-washed mat in the washer and even finish off in the dryer! This multi-use Bamboo Mat is an essential for bed time, diaper changes, and on the go.

So wether you are a cloth diapering expert or looking for the perfect baby accessories, I highly encourage you to check out Lil Helpers high quality products. Their witty website will have you laughing while also providing you with any answer or resource needed for fluff love mamas!

Buttons Diapers – Print Release

buttons-logo

Cloth diaper mommies, this one’s for you! Buttons Diapers just released new prints and we had the privilege of getting a first look at one of them! Their new diaper print: Courage is perfect for your little one(s).

img_9305

This diaper is so adorable and unique. It quickly became my husbands favorite diaper for our son to wear. We love the color green in our house so this green camouflage print is perfect. I really like how the camo print was designed. Often times I see camo print with large “splotches” of green and dark green; but not with this diaper. The Buttons courage print has many shades of green and the “splotches” are smaller and jagged, not a straight, wavy line.

……….

When I received the diaper in the mail I was SO excited. Who doesn’t love getting fluff mail?! The diaper was wrapped in tissue and tied with a bow, a great touch that makes opening the package even more enjoyable; I’m a sucker for cute packaging. I even like how Buttons includes an instruction page with each of their diapers. Every diaper is wrapped around their thin cardboard instruction page, such a smart way to tell customers how to use the product! After un-snapping the diaper, tucking away the instruction sheet, and washing the cover, it was ready to go on baby’s bottom!

::Top Three Reasons I Use Buttons Diapers::

  1. All-in-2 –> The diaper consists of a shell (cover) and an insert. The cover is able to be used multiple times a day. When baby goes potty just change the insert out and use the cover again! This is so great because it lessens my laundry by a long shot! The cover has snaps to adjust the height of the diaper. These make it possible to use for babies from 9-35 pounds.
  2. Gussets –> With the double leg gussets leaks are minimal. It’s like there are two layers that protect the rest of the world from baby’s mess.
  3. Price –> Buttons Diapers are VERY affordable. Check out these links to see cover, insert, and accessory prices.

Who is gDiapers

Kim and Jason founded gDiapers in 2005.  One morning, over breakfast, they found out that disposable diapers are the 3rd largest contributor to landfill across the globe. They also found out that it is thought that a single disposable diaper will take up to 500 years to dissolve. 500 YEARS! They knew that they didn’t want to contribute to those numbers. Living in Australia, where water shortages often occur, doing cloth was also not an option for them. So what to do? Their only option was to create a diaper that is right in the middle. One that can be composted but also not take too much water in a drought.

Fair Dinkum. It’s a fun way of saying be genuine. Be real. Have integrity. Be respectful. It’s Australian in origin but the sentiment is global. Be genuine. – gDiapers Website

Fair Dinkum is the thought behind everything the gDiapers stands for.   One of the ways that gDiapers see’s Fair Dinkum in their business is on-site childcare. This is such a wonderful business practice in my opinion. To save all the commuting to and from a daycare, being able to care for and help your children through the day, not just after 5. This is priceless.

What is a gDiaper

gDiapers is a very unique product. It is not a cloth diaper and it is not fully a disposable. It’s in it’s own category really.

Outside: The outside part is called gPants. This is a cloth material that is machine washable.

Inside: The inside consists of 2 parts. The pouch & the insert.

  • “Made with gDiapers’ unique gBreathe™ technology, the gPants pouch provides the waterproof barrier in gPants while allowing baby’s delicate skin to breathe. More breathability means less diaper rash. Pouches unsnap easily for quick changes. So you can change the pouch, not the whole pair of pants.” – gDiapers Website
  • Pouches are available in 2 sizes. Small and Medium/Large. The newborn pouches are sewn in and not replaceable.
  • The inserts are able to break down in compost (only the wet ones) &  the inserts are flushable.

How to Use

In order to use gDiapers you will need the gPants and an insert. Place the insert inside of the pouch and then place the diaper on the baby. Easy as that!

gDiapers is unique in that they also feature rear velcro. Instead of having the closure on the front hips, gDiapers is secured by the rear hip area. I think this is super perfect for toddlers. My kids love to try and take off their diapers. This makes taking them off more difficult for a toddler.

How to Dispose

Flushable: gDiapers inserts can be safely flushed in North American city toilets. I live in the country and have a leach field, I am not going to flush my liners because they could get tangled around my aerator (fancy word for the machine that turns my flushing). Then I would have to get in the ground and remove the tangling, which is no fun. In a city setting the liner would break down pretty fast in their septic system. Regardless of whether you flush the liner or not, all waste must be flushes down the toilet. This is even true of disposable diapers. Solid waste is not allowed to be placed in your trash cans.

To read more about how to properly flush the inserts, please click here and watch the video which gDiapers created for us.

Compostable:  “The Disposable Inserts are made of cellulose, fluff pulp and super absorber, which alone would be a valuable contribution to your compost, but when combined with the added nitrogen from your baby’s urine, makes an incredibly rich soil amendment safe for all manner of plants and vegetables.”gDiapers Website

I have a tumbler composter. I have added greens and browns to my mixture. This particular mixture is about 12 months old. I am adding the inserts in October of 2015. I will update as they begins to breakdown. I will be folding this mixture into my vegetable garden in the spring of 2016.

Did you know that every 2 minutes a women dies from complications in childbirth? I didn’t, but knowing this face makes me sad and worried. gDiapers has partnered with Every Mother Counts (EMC). This also means that for every 2 minutes a average of 4 orphans are left behinds. These women are their caretakers, their educators and their community leaders. By makes strides to lessen birth related deaths we can help make a huge difference in cultures across the globe. 98% of these deaths are preventable.

Mama’s Experience

I was instantly excited to try out gDiapers. The idea that I could compost my dirty diaper was thrilling! Whether I was going to fold it into the ground, place it in my tumble compost or simply toss in the trash can, I knew that it would compose sooner than any disposable diaper on the market.

The liners fit a tad snugly in the pocket. Occasionally I fold over about an inch of the insert in the front side of my diaper for a double up effect for my son. If I would do this for a little girl I would put the folded part in the back. Boys pee up and girls pee back, it’s science (LOL not really, it’s just my observations after having one of each).

I love how easy these diapers are to use. I can dispose of the old insert and pop a new insert in pretty fast. I love how quick it is. Changing diapers can be challanging with a busy 18 month old son. I also like to have another gPants all ready and premade so when I remove the dirty diaper I have the new one all ready to go. Then I just pull the soiled insert out and place a new insert in for the next diaper change. Sometimes the urine gets heavy and I need to wipe the pouch with a wet rag or wet wipe. Sometimes it gets messier and just needs to be changed.

You can get a starter bundle to try out gDiapers. This comes with 2 gPants and 1 package of inserts. It’s really a great way to get the ball rolling. If you have used cloth but need something that is more disposable like for a vacation or a babysitter, this is the perfect solution. I may be taking a vacation in early 2016. I honestly don’t trust my parents to correctly wash my sons cloth diapers. I plan on buying a ton of inserts and gPants for them to use while I am gone. It will be easy on them and easy on the environment. This is also great if you feel like you don’t have time to do all the extra laundry that cloth diapers involves.

Why choose gDiapers?
  • Because your childcare provider cannot figure out cloth diapers/you don’t trust them with your stash.
  • Because you don’t have time to wash cloth diapers but care about our landfills.
  • Because the smell of disposables makes you sick (it does to me now).
  • Because the chemicals in disposables makes your child have skin irritations/rashes.
  • Because you are going on vacation and don’t want to lug your cloth stash with you.
  • Because gPants come in super cute designs and you need that on your baby now!
  • Because you want to support a company that cares about their employees and mothers across the globe
  • I could keep going but you get my drift.
