 Paperless Towels

Here’s some horrifying paper towel facts. 13 billion pounds of paper towels are used each year. That’s over 45 pounds of paper towels per person, per year. Paper towels are not recyclable since they don’t contain much fiber, making them purely waste. This waste adds up to 254 million tons of trash globally each year. These numbers alone should make you want to ditch paper towels and go paperless!

 

When I decided to make the switch to reusable products, paper towels and napkins were the first items I replaced. Baby wipes also contain so many preservatives and fragrances that I don’t feel comfortable touching my daughters sensitive skin. As a cloth diapering mama, it only makes sense to use cloth wipes.

Caring for your Cloth items

Caring for your Paperless Towels and Little Wipes is simple. I wash my towels and wipes in cold/ warm water. I also avoid fabric softeners and dryer sheet to keep the fabric absorbent. Gina’s Soft Cloth Shop also suggests occasionally adding 1/4 cup of white vinegar to your rinse cycle to prevent detergent build up and keep your towels soft.  My Little Wipes that I use as baby wipes get thrown in the wash along with my diaper laundry. Air dry your towels in the sun for it antibacterial and stain removing benefits or dry in your dryer.

Little Adventures Dress Up

My kids love to dress up. Princesses, sword waving pirates, galactic warriors and fairies, all of them are in top play here in the Fox house. No
matter that day of the week, we end up putting on at least one dress up outfit. After trying so many brands so have established our favorite – Little Adventures Dress Up’s.

Little Adventures makes the highest quality dress up clothing for boys and girls. My favorite feature is that their dress up outfits are machine washable, which is key to any wardrobe purchase. Kids are messy. They go through potty training, and the accidents that coincide with potty training. Kids want to eat their dinner and will refuse to take off their dress up clothes. All of Little Adventures dress up outfits can be washed in your residential washing machines – just read the tag to see what the individual garment recommends.

My daughter always loves her Little Adventure dress up clothing because they are comfortable. Many time rough lace and detailing are used in play clothing that end up scratching and irritating the child’s skin. Occasionally she wants to wear an undershirt with a dress to feel more grown up (as she does in the photos shown in this article), but no undershirts are needed with Little Adventure outfits.

I can not say enough about how amazing the Thirsties Natural All In One is.  This diaper will grow with your baby and will fit 8 pounds to 40 pounds thanks to the 3 rise snap options as well as the 10 waist snaps. The Natural One Size AIO is also available in Hook and Loop.

Sleep Zzz Pillow

My kids hate sleep. Maybe not really, but I feel like they do. I don’t understand why! I love to sleep and considering they’re my children, I thought they would too! However, I find it much easier to sleep when I have my front sleeper pillow so considering I have tried every technique in the book, like not letting them watch TV an hour before bedtime, tiring them out before bedtime, I’m going to try a technique that helps me sleep better. I even keep an eye out for bed bugs (known as punaise de lit) to make sure they don’t get bitten at night! They have never been those kids that sleep through the night….like ever. At ages 4 and 3 respectively, I have just given up on them sleep through the night or even in their own bed for one of them. Like clockwork, with their Seal plush in hand, they come knocking on my door in the middle of the night. This all changed when I took a leaf out of my own book and we tried out the Sleep Zzz Pillow.

When I first saw the Sleep Zzz Pillow I thought it was just another fun pillow like an Anime Dakimakura Pillow. A body pillow for kids. I had never seen one and thought it was a fun concept. Then my kids tried it out, and my kids fought over this pillow! They both LOVE how it feels to be snuggled up in it. Silikids

I have always said that babies are never ending research projects. I am always doing my research on what are the safest products for my daughter. My daughter started eating solids and drinking from a sippy cup at 6 months old and that’s when I really started doing my research on the plastic products that touch my daughters food.

There are so many chemicals in plastic such as BPA and Phthalates. It is so important to me to keep these chemicals away from my daughter. That’s when I started to look into Silicone products. The ergoPouch sleeping bag comes in two different sizes – 2-12 months and 12-36 months; they will last a long time! I think it’s great that there are just two size options because then you don’t need to buy as many. These sizes are for the sleeping bag only; there are other sizes involved in their other products.

There are many different options for warmth in terms of the sleeping bag. Their products are measured in togs which are a unit of thermal resistance used to measure the power of insulation of a fabric. The higher the tog, the warmer the piece of fabric. The warmest sleeping bag, and the one that we have, is a 3.5 tog – a warm pouch for winter. The next is a 2.5 tog pouch that is a bit lighter. 1.0 tog is the mild pouch that is more for fall or spring months. The pouch for the warmest weather is the cool pouch that is used in the summer. Below is a chart that is very helpful in knowing what pouch to put on baby in certain temperatures.

   

A thermometer is included with every purchased ergoPouch. This thermometer is really great. It shows the temperature of the room and which pouch should be put on baby accordingly – so useful! I hung it in my sons room so I know the temperature and which sleep sack he should wear.

The sleeping bag has unique stretch inserts on the the shoulder tops and on the side panels. This allows for natural movement so baby can sleep in comfort. I love how the sleeping bag has a double ended zipper. You can change baby’s diaper quickly and easily by unzipping the bag from the bottom. Keep them warm while you change them too! There are even button snaps that cover each zipper to protect baby and to keep them from possibly unzipping it themselves.

I love the print of our sleeping bag, it matches my sons room perfectly! There are many different prints and even solid color options too. ergoPouch offers gender neutral and gender specific colors. Their prints are very unique and not like most other sleep sacks.

Don’t get me wrong the convenience of store bought pouches are appealing but what is really in them? I never gave this a second thought until there was a massive recall on so many brands of pouches for mold and expired foods. That did it for me, I was going to make my own. If I was going to make my own purees I didn’t want to use disposable pouches. There is nothing I hate more than throwing away money. That’s when I found Squeasy Snackers. What I didn’t know before I tried the Squeasy Snacker is that I can use it for so much more than purees. Squeasy Snackers are my new go to sippy cup for my daughter because not only is it easier to clean, there are no leaks and no spills.

If you have given your child a store bought pouch I am sure you have experienced them squeezing it and causing a huge mess. Gauze Blankets

Gauze Blankets are a must for any baby or toddler. My daughter was born in the heat of the summer and the thought of covering her in a heavy blanket was crazy. Of course, in the winter she could have something a little heavier, perhaps something like Decke mit Foto bedrucken, but in the summer, I relied on gauze blankets to wrap up my newborn, or to cover myself while nursing or even as a changing pad while on the go, you really can’t have to many. Finally one day she sowed a cover with extra fabric lying around and created one of her own – the Covered Goods prototype. This cover is exactly what the founder was looking for, a full coverage nursing cover that took away the fear of being exposed while nursing in public.

The Covered Goods covers are a super cute alternative to other nursing covers. With tons of different prints, you will for sure be able to find one that you like; solid, prints, stripes, or mismatch. With a price of $34.99, the Covered Goods cover is a very reasonable investment. Between buying a nursing cover, shopping cart cover, scarf, and car seat canopy all separately, you would for sure exceed the price of one Covered Goods cover. For the small price that you pay for a Covered Goods cover you are getting four products in one; totally budget friendly.

I love the cart cover aspect of the cover. When I grocery shop with my son, the last thing I want for him is to be touching, chewing or sucking the cart. Shopping carts are so dirty and germ infested, I don’t even like touching them. With the cover I can completely keep my hands germ free and more importantly my son germ free. The cover is very easy to put on and take off of the cart, which is a deal breaker for me. Normally I am holding my son and the diaper bag all while trying to put the cover on the cart. It is very stretchy and easy to use with one hand; it can fit over almost any cart too.

The car seat cover is super useful and cute too! It has been rainy and snowy here in northeast Ohio and the cover has been a lifesaver. Every time we go outside with baby we put the cover on his car seat. It keeps the rain and snow away from his little body and keeps the wind out too – the best part! I like how the slit is on the top and makes room for the handle so we can carry him. This is good too so clean oxygen gets to him and he has good air circulation. I’ve always been nervous about those car seat covers that completely make a barrier around the baby; carbon monoxide poisoning is no joke! The cover is super stretchy so it easily fits around the car seat with no issues. Just start with the larger end and stretch it down around the seat until it’s sitting how you want it.

One aspect of the cover that I don’t like is that my cover is only printed on one side. This is particularly a problem when I wear the cover as a scarf. Putting it around my neck just once is okay and doesn’t show the white side; but when I wrap the scarf twice around my neck it is difficult to keep only the printed side showing. Some of their covers are double printed, but not all.

Although I would like my cover to be printed on both sides, this is the only negative I have found with the product. I love this Covered Goods cover and use it each time we leave the house and will definitely use it for my future children too.
