How is your cloth diapering going?

When we moved back to America we switched to cloth diapers since we finally had a washer machine connected to the hot water. I’ve enjoyed testing MamatheFox’s stash of cloth diapers to figure out which brands I like best, not to mention which ones my husband can correctly put on.

Recently while reading blogs and searching Pinterest for cloth diaper information I stumbled upon FuzziBunz diapers. I was immediately hooked by their prices and the frequency of sales. I loved their unique vibrant prints and realized these were different from most cloth diapers.

 

Why FuzziBunz is Different?

  • Easily replaceable elastics

FuzziBunz has a longer lifespan because you can replace the elastic. Diapers are equipped with Fantastic Elastic which are easily replaceable using a button-hole system. Replacement elastic is extremely affordable. To be honest, I was pleasantly surprised! I mean replacing the elastic is pretty much giving your diaper a second life, so I expected it to be kind of pricey. Each replacement kit comes with 3 pieces of hole elastic and cost $1.50.

  • One size adjustable diaper

I’ve tried a lot of different brands of one size adjustable diapers. Some include snaps on the front which make for quick, but sometimes confusing, adjustments. I’ve also tried diapers equipped with a bra like elastic system in the legs. Those were so tight I literally had to use pliers to adjust my diapers. FuzziBunz elastic attaches to the adjustment buttons in each leg and on the waistband. A custom fit is made easy and can quickly be readjusted.   • 3 Point Leak Protection

Recently FuzziBunz refined their diapers creating a 3 point leak protection system. Their seams are are reinforced with new technology to prevent wetness leaking through. The first time my daughter wore this diaper she had a mega blow out. My father-in-law wrestled with a fussy baby for over 30 minutes with no resolve. I didn’t even know she had pooped until I went to change her diaper before a feeding. The leg holes are equipped with thick seams that keep moisture in but are still comfortable and moveable.

Inserts are pre-prepped and pre-shrunk in order to prevent abnormalities after the first washes. I loved how dense and high quality the organic hemp/cotton blend felt. It worked great alone during the day and paired well with a booster at night. I like the blend option as the cotton quickly absorbs moisture while the hemp retains moisture under pressure.

An additional treatment was added to the outer cover fabric to help make it more water resistant. To me, the outer cover resembles a soft cotton swimsuit. It definitely has a stronger water resistant feel and has protection against any wicking. An added bonus is the array of prints and solids. Their 2017 line is pretty top notch with a variety of different styles.

  • Polar Fleece Lining

You know the phrase “soft as a baby’s bottom?”

Well FuzziBunz’s polar fleece lining might be softer. The white lining was super comfortable on baby, especially around the legs and waist where it is tighter. I like to make my diapers a bit tighter mostly because my little one is on the squishier side. The extra polar fleece padding around the seams kept her leakproof while not leaving any indents on her skin.

I love how much information and support FuzziBunz gives to parents starting cloth diapers. I know when I made the switch I was completely overwhelmed. Everyone has different opinions, methods, and systems and it was so hard to remember what to do and when. Norwex Review

Norwex is one of those things that may confuse you at first (at least for me) but once you understand how life changing & awesome their towels are, you will totally be obsessed with them. I never heard about Norwex until about 2 or 3 months ago. I’m like…okay they are rags…towels? Yeah, so? They are way more than just rags or towels – they will change your life. 

The Norwex antibacterial Microfiber EnviroCloth removes dust, dirt and grease from all washable surfaces using only water—no chemicals! Norwex Microfiber has the ability to remove up to 99% of bacteria from a surface when following the proper care and use instructions. – Norwex’s Website

How It Works:

So in layman’s terms, this cloth (rag, towel, whatever term you like to use) only needs water to wash and clean your house. No chemicals. No solutions. Just water. Now you are wondering what is special about this cloth to make it actually work – silver. Like the kind that your wedding ring may be made out of. Basically there is a tiny, itty -bitty thread of real silver sewn into the cloth. The silver is what kills the germs, bacteria and doesn’t allow the cloth do get mildew or moldy. You do have to be sure that the towel dries out each night, by hanging it to dry (I use a 3M hook in my kitchen). The silver doesn’t kill it on contact. Once you’ve wiped up dirt, bacteria and viruses with your Antibac cloth, the silver works to inactivate the bacteria and viruses within the cloth. It does this by suffocating the bacteria so that it doesn’t get the oxygen it needs to survive. So it’s once you are done cleaning and the rag is sitting that it starts to do the dirty work. It can take up to 18-20 hours to completely kill the germs, so the hanging up at night is super important.

There is a limit as to how much the cloth can pick up germ-wise. You do need to launder the cloth after heavy uses like raw meat clean ups and toilet washing’s.

How to Clean the Cloths:

It is recommend that you clean the cloths with the Norxew brand laundry detergent. I was able to try out the detergent and it works very well. You need such a small amount I honestly didn’t think my laundry was going to be clean. But it was! I even had some stinky workout clothes washed with a small amount of the detergent and it totally took the funk out.

If you want to use another type of laundry soap be sure that there are no softening agents, bleach or dryer sheets with any Norwex cloth. These can leave reduce and decrease the effectiveness of the products.

Uses for the Cloths:

EnviroCloth:

  • Used dry for dusting, it creates static electricity that lifts the smallest particles of dust and dirt up into the cloth and prevents them from resettling on surfaces.
  • Used damp for general cleaning and heavily soiled areas, it picks up everything using water. Cleaned surfaces become so clean that new dirt and dust do not return as quickly.

I first found out about BANJOrganics at Mommy Con in Columbus, Ohio. I was able to meet Nicole and talk to her about her product line. I was so interested in her ability to create household products. When chatting she mentioned that her husband would say something about needing more itch relief cream next time they went to the store, but instead she would think out how to make her own. That way it would be without all the nasty chemicals and other no-no’s. That is ingenuity at it’s finest.

This anti itch paste is just what you need this fall. With fun fall campfires and pumpkin patches comes mosquitoes and aggressive bee’s. This paste has a clay base and is very easily applied and smoothed over your skin and the effected area. It felt slightly sticky, doe to the clay, when applying. Then after a few minutes I forgot about it.

Magnesium Lotion

Most women are deficient in magnesium. Often, then taken in pill form, your body is not able to fully absorb all the nutrients from the pill and you urinate the remains. When you apply magnesium topically (like a lotion) your skin can slowly absorb all the goodness from the vitamin and get into your bloodstream more efficiently. Magnesium lotion is not a perfumed lotion that you would put on to smell nice instead of a perfume! It has a very potent small. This is because this lotion is REAL! It has true magnesium flakes as one of the primary ingredients. It is not something I was used to, so I just put it on when I knew I was going to be busy and not just sitting around smelling it.

These shower disks are to be placed on the floor of the shower. They are a one time usage and perfect for quick or long showers. I try to only use them when I know I am going to really relax and have someone home to watch the kids. I don’t often get alone time, and showering is actually a precious thing in my life now. These pods give me an indulgence in my fun 7 minute vacation from life. They easily and evenly dissolve and they have never harmed my tub because they are so natural!

I was once able to indulge in a an eucalyptus sauna in Las Vegas. Man, that was amazing. This was like a fun home style version of that! The eucalyptus helps open your pours and sinus cavities. I highly suggest this to, like everyone.

The bath teas are just that, a small bag stuffed with items you would find in a bag of tea, plus a few other treats. The BANJOrganics bags have lavender, chamomile, oats and lavender essential oil. The directions are to tie the bag to your bath spout so that as your water fills, the bag is being soaked with fresh water. My spout is being occupied by a blue whale cover to protect myself and my children from unnecessary bath time injuries (they find enough other ways to collect band-aids, right?!), so kept it in the water float by holding it there. After my bath was filling up I noticed that the water was starting to turn the color of a lovely cup of tea! I was so giddy by this and felt like it was such a treat. Every so often I would pick up the bag and squeeze it to allow more “goodness” to spill out of the bag. This is the perfect gift for the hard to shop for friend or relative. Fun, useful and affordable.

Face Wash

When I opened the container saw that the contents of the face wash was straight liquid I instantly thought, “well this isn’t going to work.” I have been breaking out due to stress and my crazy schedule. Zits have formed colonies on my face and are currently in a civil war. I was hesitant to try this wash, but that is my job! I use a Clarisonic scrubber so I poured a small amount (about a dime size) onto my brush. I was surprised I felt a little something. I added a little more half way through my washing because like I said, I wasn’t so sure. I felt clean. I didn’t feel slimy like there was residue from makeup/sweat/cleaner was still on my face. Hmm….Then I took a small amount and put it in my hand and applied to directly to my skin. I could feel the wash this time a lot more. It doesn’t lather, which a truly organic face wash should not (due to the lack of the bad stuff – which is good). It could feel the wash spread evenly across my face but not in an oily or heavy way. I have been washing with this face wash for over a week now and my civil war zit zone is coming to a halt! I am so excited that this stuff actually works! woot woot!

Like the above mentioned face wash, this moisturizer is also a liquid and I didn’t believe it. I have to apply lotion after I shave my legs. Its just how I am. I applied a small amount, like a nickle worth, to each leg. I was surprised that it spread as much as it did. I figured that because it is so water-like that I would have to reapply in a half an hour after it fully soaked in and I was itchy….30 minutes…60 minutes…then I lost track of time. I never got itchy! It’s cold as bones out in Ohio and getting pretty dry and I only had to apply a super small amount to my just shaved legs. This stuff rocks.

Waterless Hand Soap

With fall here and flu season approaching I am so not ready for that whirlwind. My 3 year old just started preschool and I am just waiting for the stampede of germs, colds and who-knows-what to come walking through my door along with her. I love being able to not clean my families hands on the go. I cant always lug both my kids into a tiny restroom to wash their hands what out and about. Plus, once they are clean and I am washing the other ones hands, they already touch the floor, wall and probably somehow scaled the wall to touch the ceiling too! This product comes in full size and travel (Roadies) size so you can grab a few and always have them accessible.

This product is very different. As I mentioned above, the lack of magnesium in your body can cause a whole bunch of oddities. This rollaway is made up of magnesium and a blend of essential oils so that no matter if the headache is due to stress, barometric pressure, loud children or what have you, there is going to be something in the ingredients that will help you out. The reviews (updated for 2020) of CBD oil products also show them to have been effective in clearing the headaches or nausea of the people who tried them out and found them to have provided them with a positive experience.

My order included a fun little extra fact sheet that I just love. It tells you how to store, apply and use the product. They even include a quote from the Centers For Disease Control, “Sunscreen is not meant to allow children to spend more time in the sun than they would otherwise. Combine sunscreen with other options to prevent UV damage. Sunscreen reduces damage from UV radiation, it doesn’t eliminate it.” 

The sun screens do not contain extra perfumes, so the smell is really refreshing as the natural scent of the product. I know that I won’t get a headache when re-applying it on my children all day. It goes on smooth and wants to absorb into your skin, it doesn’t just move around on the top layer of skin like some other brands of lotion do.

The smell of all the chemicals in laundry soap grosses me out! I switched to making my own laundry soap a few years ago when I had my first child. Learning about all the harmful chemicals and dyes honestly freaked me out. My husband was not on board with our switch but he eventually hopped on board. We have been on the look out for a new, even safer, laundry alternative. I recently found out about Crystal Wash. I am so excited about this product!

Crystal Wash is able to wash your clothes without the use of chemicals, detergent or dyes. Crystal Wash uses a fine balance of Bio Ceramics (various minerals with very effective antibacterial and anti-oxidant properties which come from the earth) to create 2 benefits in the laundry’s water: deep cleaning and disinfecting. By deep cleaning they mean, “They produce far infrared rays that effectively reduce negative ions in the water of your laundry machine, which raises pH level to 8.5 or greater. This process shrinks the water molecule clusters to a size that allows dirts and soils to be soaked free naturally.” and my disinfecting they mean, “Additionally, the Bio Ceramics create Hydrogen Peroxide which disinfects the clothes, kills bacteria and odor.” “The pH level of laundry water impacts the wash greatly. Not only does Crystal Wash save your family from harsh chemicals but it also saves you money! One of the other reasons that I switched to making my own detergent was to save my family money. I do a TON of laundry. My kids seem to go through at least 2 to 4 outfits a day. They seem to find ways to get food, paint, dirt, chalk, play-doh….anything really, on their clothes. Directions:

Crystal Wash can be used with both top and front loading machines. At the beginning of your wash simply drop the 2 spheres into your washer along with your clothes. No need for detergent. Harsh stains and messes still require an advanced stain remover (darn you blueberries!! ::shakes fist::). If you would like a scent you can add a cap of fabric softener. To ensure effectiveness, every 2 to 3 weeks, you will want to recharge the bio-ceramics contained within the Crystal Wash spheres. To do this, simply place the spheres in the sun for an afternoon.

Once you make the switch you are going to never look back at laundry detergents again. The smell of those soaps literally makes me ill now.
