8 Easy Steps to Make Cheese at Home

You can easily make some of the best cheeses using ingredients you already have in your home, and in very little time too.

Cheese is so many people’s all-time favourite food to eat, and most are unaware they could easily whip up a batch in their own kitchen, and get an end result that is just as delicious (and even fresher) that their preferred store brand.

Most likely, the ingredients and cheese making equipment you need to make a batch of homemade cheese are already in your kitchen or store, and all you need is a recipe and an easy step-by-step guide to making the cheese of your dreams.

What you will need;

  • Milk
  • Vinegar/ lemon
  • Salt
  • Seasoning (optional)
  • Strainer
  • Cheesecloth

Step 1

Decide on the kind of cheese you will like to make. For simpler, easy and less time consuming variations, you can whip up a batch with the above listed ingredients. But, for more complicated cheeses, some require culture and rennet. In that case, you need to know where to buy rennet.

However, for easy homemade cheese, you can follow this recipe.

Step 2

Grab the milk you want to use to make this easy, homemade cheese. You can use almost any kind of milk, but you absolutely must stay away from ultra-pasteurized milk, as its components do not allow it properly form curds. Raw milk is usually the best option, but any brand of pasteurized milk will always give a good enough result.

Step 3

Heat your milk in a pot over medium heat, and allow it to boil. Don’t forget to constantly check on and stir your milk so it does not burn. Stir constantly and allow to completely boil.

Step 4

Here is where the make or break in your cheese making plan. Once your milk has been brought to boil, reduce the heat from medium to low, and add a measurement (depending on the quantity of milk) of acid – lemon or vinegar to the boiling milk, while still stirring the mixture. It should cause an immediate separation of curds and whey (yellowing liquid). This means that the acid is properly curding the milk. If due to some reason, the curdling does not happen, add some vinegar (little by little), until the separation occurs.

Choosing lemon or vinegar is mostly a variation according to taste preferences as lemon may add a more citrus, tangy flavour to the cheese; although, vinegar is the more predictable, easily controlled choice.

Step 5

Once the curds are separated, you are well on your way to having your perfect homemade cheese. Now, you have to pour the mix through a strainer, and allow the whey drain away – you can keep this whey to be used later for other use. Rinse the curds under s rush of cold water, and drain thoroughly.

Step 6

Now, you can season your cheese just as you like. If you prefer simple, unflavoured cheese, you can simply add two teaspoons of salt, or add some more seasoning to spice things up a bit.

Step 7

After seasoning your cheese to your taste, you can wrap the cheese in a proper fabric (cheesecloth is recommended, but any cotton t-shirt would do). Let the wrapped cheese sit for about two hours, and then move it to the refrigerator.

Step 8

Store your cheese in the refrigerator, and remember to consume within a week so it doesn’t spoil.

You can now whip out your homemade batch of cheese to eat as you please when you are too tired to make the drive to the store, or when guests come over and you want to show off your cooking skills.

Go with Me, Anywhere!

I’ve been on the hunt for a good travel seat for the kiddo.

We travel to my parents a lot, so having one that we can bring with us or leave at their house is a must. That’s why I’m so glad I found the Baby Delight Go With Me Chair.

This is a multi-functional seat that is great for travel, high chair use, or outdoor sitting.

Using a similar idea of a folding chair, this seat folds and unfolds super easily and fits nicely in a carrying bag.

Having a variety of different seating options, your child will be comfortable at any age (within the parameters) sitting in the chair. The seating options for the chair include: sitting, standing, and big kid. Baby can start using the high chair at approximately three months of age, and can continue to use it until they reach 75 pounds.

In the sitting position, baby sits in the chair using the 5 point harness straps. This is great for very young children and children who are walking (or are stable on their feet).

Next, the standing position, is a good option for kids who need support standing. Simply un-Velcro the seat portion to reveal the two leg holders where baby can stand with support. Once kids are walking, this option isn’t really necessary for them, but surely can be used. My son recently started walking and I put him in the chair standing up, and he was too tall, so we just went back to the sitting position. The standing option is great to use in any circumstance; use it like an activity jumper.

The big kid option is great for toddlers and beyond. Here the chair is basically a folding chair. Whether using it indoors our outdoors, your toddler will love this seat. Using the chair with this option is perfect for watching sports or relaxing in the backyard.

Baby Delight offers a multitude of color choices to choose from; this fun chair will brighten up any space. If using the chair outside for a (possible) sporting event, get the chair in the color of the team you’re rooting for!

The 5 point removable harness is so great, it gives me peace of mind when baby is in the seat. I love that I have the option to strap baby in around the belly or on the shoulders, or both! The harness is comfortable and keeps baby securely sitting up right. When baby gets older, the shoulder straps aren’t necessary, just snap around the belly.

The high chair is equipped with a removable tray and sun canopy. I love these features because they are both really nice to have in different circumstances. Each of these features can be used on the chair using any of the seating options.

When using the chair for eating, then the removable tray is obviously something you’ll want to utilize. Baby sits right up in the seat and the tray fits snuggly around them.

The sun canopy is the perfect feature when using the hair outside. Whether you’re eating outside and using the tray too, or just sitting in the chair watching a game, The sun canopy is great for keeping that fragile skin safe and protected. The canopy folds up very easily and fits in the carrying bag with the removable tray and the high chair seat.

This is a great seat for any family. Perfect for travel, or to use in the backyard, your kids will love this seat; and you will too! My favorite aspect of the chair is that it folds up super small and fits into a carrying bag. Seriously so convenient!

ESAs To The Rescue!

Everyone gets the blues from time to time – it’s a part of being human. When we do, we find things to do and people to be with that help us feel better and bring pleasure into our lives. If you suffer from a mental illness, getting to a good place can be a wee bit tougher. So who has emotional support animals and how do they help?

Emotional support animals, aka ESAs, are sometimes “prescribed” by health professionals as part of an overall treatment plan for people with emotional and psychological conditions. An ESA can help you feel better, and manage your symptoms on a day to day basis.

People who are helped by ESAs

You may qualify for an emotional support animal if you have a mental health condition that impacts on your quality of life. This includes conditions such as depression, anxiety, stress, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) mood and personality disorders, and many more.

The help an ESA gives
If you find the presence of an animal comforting and you enjoy taking care of an animal’s needs, an ESA may help you with your condition. ESAs are considered assistance animals that can provide therapeutic help.

Unlike a service animal, an ESA is not trained to do specific tasks for you. What they do is help alleviate and manage symptoms associated with mental health. Ways that an ESA may do this include:

Unconditional love: Animals have an enormous capacity for unconditional love. Be good to them, and they will be good for you and be there with unlimited companionship and affection with no-strings-attached.

Regular routines: Taking care of an animal involves establishing regular routines. Pets need feeding at regular intervals, and dogs especially have grooming and exercise needs to take care of. Also, consider keeping your home clean with a dog proof trash can

Stress relief: Just being in the presence of a companion animal can relieve stress, and it gets even better. Patting a pet has a calming effect. Exercising with them even more so. And when an animal makes you smile and laugh, then you’ve hit the jackpot!

Companionship: Feelings of isolation and being alone are common in people living with emotional and psychological conditions. An emotional support animal provides a form of social support to remind you that you are not alone, and there is another being sharing their life with you.
Understanding others: The care involved in looking after an animal can help with understanding that others have needs that have to be met. Animals also help with understanding similarities and difference.

Security: For anyone with anxiety around going outside, or even being in their own home an emotional support animal, especially a dog, can provide a sense of security to help overcome these types of fears to live life a little easier.

Sociability: Once you have an animal in your life, you automatically have some common ground and conversation piece with every other person on the planet who has a pet. As someone with a dog, you will interact with others while you are out walking or be able to talk with others about their pets.

Physical benefits: There are physical benefits to having an animal in your life. Neurotransmitters such as serotonin and oxytocin are affected by interacting with a pet, as is blood pressure.

How an ESA helps while you’re traveling
If you have a fear of flying or anxiety around traveling in general, being able to have your emotional support animal can help. So long as they are an animal that is appropriate to take traveling, and you are not adding any stress to the animal or yourself, an ESA can help overcome these fears by providing a distraction and offering comfort.

In the United States, the Air Carrier Access Act protects the rights of people with ESAs to fly with an emotional support animal if they need them on the flight, or at their destination. If you are intending to fly with an ESA, be aware that airlines have their own policies and procedures. The airline is likely to ask for an ESA letter and other documentation. Carriers can refuse animals, so always check in advance.

How an ESA helps where you live
Your home is, of course, going to be the number one place where an emotional support animal is going to help you feel better. This is where their presence, companionship, and support will come to the fore – in your regular day to day living.

If you live in rental housing, including campus accommodation, your property manager must make “reasonable accommodation” for anyone with an ESA under the Fair Housing Act. This legislation helps protect the rights of people with emotional support animals to have their animal live with them. There are a few exceptions though, such as if your animal is a health and safety risk to anyone else. Landlords and property managers can also ask for a copy of your ESA letter to confirm you are eligible for this type of assistance.

Feeling good about how you click and connect
While there are no strict limits on the types of animals that can be ESAs, dogs, and cats are the most common. Why? These are the types of domestic pets that many of us have already “clicked with” or felt a particular affinity with, or connection to, in our lives.

Emotional support animals can also help us as a human being with our need to feel needed. Having an animal in your life comes with responsibilities, and this is a good thing. You are responsible for taking care of their needs in order for them, in turn, to help you with yours. The bond between a person and an animal should be mutually beneficial.

Taking the first step towards an ESA
If you are wondering whether an emotional support animal might help you feel better, talk to your health professional or try a free pre-screen. If you are not sure on whether to get a cat or a dog or a particular breed, do some research on what kind of care each needs. From there, find the companion that will help make your world a better place. Click here for more information.
