Constant Motion with Fluid Stance

For me concentrating has always been a struggle. In college I worked to find strategies that helped me focus and study better. I learned that if I was engaging multiple sensory receptors or activating both hemispheres of my brain, my productivity enhanced. My two biggest go-tos were listening to classical music and sitting on a balance ball.

An unmentionable number of years later, not to reveal how old I am, I find myself out of college with a family and house to manage. When we moved, my husband and I set up an “office” for me to blog, design, and edit my photography. I say “office” because it is literally in the middle of my kitchen. I didn’t want to be out of eye sight of the kids’ play space, not to mention we use our Mac for everything including recipes and entertainment. We chose an adjustable desk so that for the time being we can keep all technology out of reach of little hands. I also had the full intention to use it as a standing desk. Standing desks are all the rage right now and I knew with my focusing problems a chair wasn’t going to cut it.

Also can you imagine what two toddlers could destroy or harm with a giant bright colored bouncy ball?! There was no way I could have gone back to my college strategy of a balance ball.

After about a week of standing at my desk I gave up.

Besides my feet and hips killing me, standing gave me all the more reason to be distracted. I’d feel the urge to walk around a bit and suddenly I was knee deep in a completely different task. I also found myself shifting my weight, leaning, swaying, and cracking my toes. All things that I am sure are not only the intention of a standing desk, but not healthy.

I eventually moved to a swivel chair hoping just some slight movement would help. It resulted in my legs falling asleep and a lethargic body from not moving.

To my surprise, one day on Facebook I saw an add for Fluid Stance! I instantly knew it was a solution I wanted to test!

Why our Family Loves FluidStance

I put FluidStance to the test with the The Plane Cloud deck.

The first things I noticed was the 100% recyclable foam top! I knew it was already a step up from my hard cold tile floor.

Having cushion with some give significantly reduces the pain I have in my feet. My husband and I have actually both started using it in the kitchen while preparing food or doing dishes. Our backs feel better, our hips aren’t popped, and our cores are stimulated.

With subtlety comes the ability to focus. My body can fidget mindlessly without being a distraction to my work. Just like sitting on a balance ball, my brain is stimulated with the need to balance while I simultaneously working. I feel more alert, productive, and engaged

My kids love it! As an educator I see the need for movement and keeping kids active. My kids use the deck to rock, twist, and spin. They work on balance by walking from one side to the other or laying across the top. My son calls it his skateboard, which is a gift he has been asking for.

My New Groove Life

I still remember the day my husband proposed! I climbed the stairs to the top of the climbing tower at the camp we worked at in Michigan. With a big smile, my husband opened a tiny little box and inside was my grandmother’s diamond set in a ring of twisting silver and sparkle. The blushing bride that I was, I didn’t want to ever take it off. However, it was by far the most expensive thing we owned and my job involved sports, swimming, rock climbing, and all other crazy things you do at summer camp. The whole summer I battled between keeping my precious ring safe and showing everyone I was engaged.

I wish I would have had an alternative.

During our first year of marriage my husband finished up his senior year and football career. Almost the whole season I wore his wedding ring around my neck to keep it safe. With practices everyday and games every weekend, he had his ring off more than he had it on. I don’t know about you, but I wanted everyone on campus to know that buff linebacker was my man, but it just want’t practical.

I wish he would have had an alternative.

Two years later, my husband and I were working overseas. Most of our time was spent working in a private school, but when we did have a holiday we made use of our time. We traveled to different countries, hiked Asia’s national parks, cared for orphans, did construction, ran youth camps, and so much more. Almost every trip I left my ring at home fearing it would get lost, stolen, or broken. We weren’t exactly taking CHARTER FLIGHTS BETWEEN TOLUCA AND HOUSTON, or wherever we went (although we would have loved it!), so safety was a top priority. Besides that, the humidity in Asia got trapped under my ring and caused an infection. During our last year in China I kept my ring in the box.

I wish I would have had an alternative.

Recently my husband got super into Crossfit and no longer was the size of the linebacker I married. His wedding band didn’t fit. When we discussed replacing it we just couldn’t find a good solution. He didn’t want anything expensive because he took it off for workouts and rec sports. However, he wanted to wear something…and tattooing a ring wasn’t an option. Mom Shopping List – What to Buy Before the Baby Arrives

As an expectant parent, you will be surely surprised how much stuff a human the size of a fat rabbit needs. The items, from clothes, pacifiers, diapers to blankets, toys, milk bottles can make even veteran parents feel overwhelmed. How quickly you can pass the hours in a baby shop! But do not worry! Stocking up before your new family member is not as hard as it seems. Although it might be tempting to delay it as much as possible (are there still people out there who hate shopping?), it is best to prepare yourself so you do not get caught empty-handed. This article will help you figure out what to buy for the baby. Here are the things you need to buy before the baby arrives.

Nursery

The first thing that many parents do after finding out the baby is due is preparing the nursery because as much as you enjoy spending time with the kid, everybody needs some alone time. Preparing the nursery is not an exact science, and it all comes down to how much time you are planning to spend. These are the basics that a baby needs – although, let us be honest, you will not be able to resist buying more than what is required:

  • A baby swimsuit, assuming you gave birth during the summer
  • Out of the hospital clothes – you do not want to get out of the hospital with the baby wrapped in a towel.
  • A sun hat and a warm winter hat
  • Winter coat
  • Shoes

General Baby Care

Sadly, that soothing baby smell will not last for long – you will be surprised how messy babies can get. So, it is a good idea to buy some general baby care products that will last you for those few first days until you figure out what else you might need:

  • A baby monitor with good features
  • Baby formula
  • Baby shampoo and a body wash
  • A baby bathtub (assuming you do not like the idea of bathing the kid in an adult-sized tub)
  • Baby nail clippers
  • Hooded baby towels
  • Thermometer
  • Nasal aspirator
  • Infant-safe sunscreen

Feeding the Baby

Last but not least, before the baby arrives, you will have to decide whether you will breastfeed or bottle feed. Regardless of your choice in this matter, these items cater to both scenarios:

  • Bottles
  • Baby formula

  • Burp cloths and clothes (I think we do not need to explain this)
  • Bottle and pacifier sterilizer

6 Ways to Best Support Someone Undergoing Counseling

Let’s face it: life can get crazy and some of the twists and turns can be hard. Sometimes, it feels like there’s a force bigger than us pushing us down, with no way to get back up. Luckily, there are professionals out there who can help.
Getting counseling is not easy and it takes a great deal of courage to admit that you need it. Once you get there, having a friend or loved one close by is imperative. Whether getting counseling because of drugs, alcohol, depression or anything else, the right support is key.
If you know of someone who’s undergoing counseling, here are six key aspects to help them in their journey.
  1. Be kind. It was highly likely very hard for that person to admit they needed help. In recovery, they may become even more aware of their past actions and be ashamed. This feeling is enough to have them run back to their pacifier of choice. Being a kind friend and a non-judgmental shoulder to cry on will go a long way with this person. They’re a human being who just needs a little extra help.
  2. Remember that there’s likely a deeper problem. As friends, we want to help with that deeper issue, but sometimes we don’t know how. Encourage the person to seek professional counselling and get to the bottom of the problem to fix it from the inside out. There are many recovery centers that help people do this, such as the Soba College Recovery drug counseling in NJ.
 3.   Be there. Some people have the best intentions when they say, “Just call me if you need me.” The thing is, a person undergoing counselling may not actually want to call because they may feel like a burden if they do call. The best thing to do is to ask something like, “What can I do?” Or offer, “I can pick up your cat from the vet today.” Even if they say no, it’s a lot easier to say yes when an offer is presented, than to conjure the courage to call and ask for a favor.
4.  Don’t push. If they’ve confided in you that they’re undergoing counseling, this isn’t the time to be an inspector and ask for the details of their session. Don’t pry and don’t ask them about their session but be open when they do want to talk about it. Also, keep in mind they may never want to talk about it and you need to be OK with that.
5.  Be patient. This person may go through different iterations of counseling either with the same counselor or others. They may quit therapy, go back to their old habit, quit that, go back to therapy and declare they’re done for good until they use again. Remember that this isn’t about you and that all you can do is be there for them. Don’t take it personally and be patient.
6.  Take care of yourself. It may seem strange to include this especially after you just read that this is not about you. Yet it’s important to take care of yourself by seeking even counseling for your own mental stability when helping another. When we are someone’s support, we need to check in with a professional to make sure that we aren’t depleting our energy to the point of rejection of our own lives. Check in and ask yourself if listening to this person’s problem isn’t an avoidance of your own.
Counseling is a great way to talk out problems, be heard and work out the demons that ruminate in our minds. Remember to be there for that person and show them love. The only way they can elevate themselves is by deciding to do so. When they do, be a friend and offer support while they go through their process.

When you think children’s fashion what comes to mind?

So often I will find a beautiful dress or fun top for my daughter, but the material is scratchy or not cut to fit her body. Our kids are children, and should dress as such, not a teen. Happy 40th Anniversary to Precious Moments

Birthdays, weddings, baptisms, holidays    —   the big moments of our lives are made into delicate figures and illustrations we love to display in our home. Allowing us to recall, think and appreciate the times passed by.

 

Over the years Precious Moments has grown into the stable and thriving business. It all started back in the 70’s and is now celebrating their 40th anniversary! We can see that they are still a top collectible and loved by everyone who owns a figure, a book or artwork with the Precious Moment illustrations.

MamatheFox’s first memories of Precious Moments are when I received a Precious Moments bible. I was learning about Christ’s love, the gift of salvation and when little MamatheFox saw those big doe eyed children, in their soft colored clothing I instantly fell in love with the Precious Moments brand.
