Charlie’s Soap

Everyone wants their laundry to smell fresh and clean, am I right? Well friends, I’m here to tell you that Charlie’s soap will not disappoint. The first time I used Charlie’s soap I have to admit that I was skeptical. How could a soap clean so well AND not even have a scent? But, I pressed on and went for it. When the soap came in the mail I knew exactly what my first load would consist of – my kitchen towels! For the past couple of months our towels have had this smell on them that I just could not shake. I had washed them so many times trying to get the smell out, and I even tried using vinegar, and still no luck. But after using Charlie’s soap, the smell is gone! In fact, now there is no smell at all; they’re just clean.

As instructed on the packaging my first load with the soap consisted of one laundry packet and old rags. I washed them with hot water on high agitation, with the most water I could use (super plus). After that load I washed my kitchen towels three separate times, each time adding a new laundry packet. When all the loads were done I smelled my towels, and they were stink free! I was ecstatic (the things adults get excited about)!

The instructions are pretty straightforward, which I obviously like. Just throw one laundry packet into the washer BEFORE you put your clothes in, and you’re done; no measuring or scooping needed.

One aspect of my laundry washing that I was unsure about (and the packaging was not very clear on) was the size of load in comparison to the number of packets to use. I didn’t know whether I should add two packets to a super plus load, or just stick to one. In the end I did what the packaging instructed and use one packet, and my clothes came out clean and smell free. Seriously, I’m so impressed! Crystal Wash Review

The smell of all the chemicals in laundry soap grosses me out! I switched to making my own laundry soap a few years ago when I had my first child. Learning about all the harmful chemicals and dyes honestly freaked me out. My husband was not on board with our switch but he eventually hopped on board. We have been on the look out for a new, even safer, laundry alternative. I recently found out about Crystal Wash. I am so excited about this product!

Crystal Wash is able to wash your clothes without the use of chemicals, detergent or dyes. Crystal Wash uses a fine balance of Bio Ceramics (various minerals with very effective antibacterial and anti-oxidant properties which come from the earth) to create 2 benefits in the laundry’s water: deep cleaning and disinfecting. By deep cleaning they mean, “They produce far infrared rays that effectively reduce negative ions in the water of your laundry machine, which raises pH level to 8.5 or greater. This process shrinks the water molecule clusters to a size that allows dirts and soils to be soaked free naturally.” and my disinfecting they mean, “Additionally, the Bio Ceramics create Hydrogen Peroxide which disinfects the clothes, kills bacteria and odor.” “The pH level of laundry water impacts the wash greatly. If the water is overly acidic or alkaline it can damage delicate clothes and fabrics, cause colors to fade and cause clothing to still seem dirty even after washing. Most detergents on the market are a pH level of 6.5 – 9, but they use chemicals to achieve these levels.”

Not only does Crystal Wash save your family from harsh chemicals but it also saves you money! One of the other reasons that I switched to making my own detergent was to save my family money. As a SAHM I try to do what I can so help the financial situation of my family. A store bought detergent will cost you about $300 for 1,000 loads of laundry. Crystal Wash is only $50 for 1,000 loads! What a sweet sweet saving. Plus, is doesn’t contaminate your water supply. Living in the country, and having a sub-pump, my water goes into my backyard. I do a TON of laundry. My kids seem to go through at least 2 to 4 outfits a day. They seem to find ways to get food, paint, dirt, chalk, play-doh….anything really, on their clothes. Having to wash their clothes way more frequently then intended can cause the colors to fade and loose their brightness. But not with Crystal Wash! It keeps my kids clothes looking sharp, and keeps their integrity.

Directions:

Crystal Wash can be used with both top and front loading machines. At the beginning of your wash simply drop the 2 spheres into your washer along with your clothes. No need for detergent. Harsh stains and messes still require an advanced stain remover (darn you blueberries!! ::shakes fist::). If you would like a scent you can add a cap of fabric softener. To ensure effectiveness, every 2 to 3 weeks, you will want to recharge the bio-ceramics contained within the Crystal Wash spheres. To do this, simply place the spheres in the sun for an afternoon.

Once you make the switch you are going to never look back at laundry detergents again. The smell of those soaps literally makes me ill now. How to make Homemade HE Laundry Soap

When it comes to my family’s laundry I am sort of a snob. I only use Dreft, all natural products, or my own homemade soap. I don’t like all the chemicals and additives in all the main line brands. Nothing against them, they just aren’t for me. While my family is not chemical free or fully 100% organic, I try to make changes that will benefit us in the long term, and by reducing our chemical intake, I believe, will be extremely beneficial. I could probably step up my laundry game and become even more eco-friendly with the likes of a Yirego portable washing machine. But that’ll be a post for another day if I decide to take on the challenge. For now, let’s talk soap.

I researched and spoke with trusted friends and sources. I finally came up with my own concoction. I needed my soap to be safe for a high efficiency washing machine. The machines now a days have super smart computers in them. They can read, calculate and measure way beyond anything a simple mind like mind could imagine. The main issue with soaps, and what can and cannot be used in these washers, is the suds factor. If the suds grow and spread out too much the machines computer will be thrown off and the clothes will not be washed properly. It can also result in an overflow! No one ever wants to walk into their laundry area with an overflowing scarey shaking washing machine! You also risk breaking your washing machine, which would be a disaster. Although, it is pretty easy to find a repair company – just search online for appliance repairs and your location, e.g. Domestic Appliance Repairs London. But nevertheless, the last thing you want is a broken washing machine.

By using the correct ingredients and ratios you can avoid the unwanted suds and not harm your machine.

What you’ll need:

1 Bar of Fels-Naptha
Borax Detergent Booster
Super Washing Soda

Your ratio will be:

1 shredded bar of Fels-Naptha (2 cups shredded)

2 cups of Borax

2 cups of Super Washing Soda

Mix well & use 2 to 3 tablespoons per load depending on size of load.
