How Many Outfits Does My Newborn Need for Their Hospital Stay

Packing for the hospital can seem confusing if you’re a first time mom. Since you’ve never experienced anything like this before, you might not know what to bring along.. One of the best things to do is ask new mothers  what their must-have items are g. There are also resources available online and at your doctor’s office, such as a hospital-stay checklist. While we won’t go through the rundown of every single item you’ll need, we will focus on one of the most common questions new moms ask. “How many outfits does my newborn really need?”

Different sizing

There are a few factors that play a role in answering this question. If you’re induced earlier instead of going full term, you’ll most likely need a few preemie outfits. Newborn sizes tend to fit most babies that are 39-40 weeks. For this reason, it’s good to have a couple of options to choose from so you can have the best size on hand for your  baby. However, just because you’re getting induced earlier, doesn’t mean your baby will be preemie size. Some mothers are induced because their baby measures  bigger, or ahead of schedule, therefore moving up their due date. You never quite know until aby gets here how big she’ll be so it’s best to be prepared by shopping for those first outfits at Sandstone Avenue  baby’s first outfit at Sandstone Avenue. Some of their items are meant for 0-3 months, allowing for the best fit no matter your baby’s size at birth.

Longer hospital stay

Another factor to keep in mind is that birth plans don’t always go as expected.. Given that the delivery has gone smoothly, with no complications, mothers and babies might stay in the hospital for 24 to 48 hours. The doctor can keep an eye on both to make sure no health conditions develop, while also allowing for the anesthesia to wear off for  Mom. If, for some reason, there are complications during delivery, your baby may need to stay longer to be close to the medical team. In this case, you may want to think about bringing five-days worth of outfits. You may even consider bringing the same amount for yourself if you plan on staying in the hospital, too. It may seem like you’re over packing but it’s better to be safe than sorry. There will be one less thing to worry about  should you need to stay longer. Instead of having to run home for more clothes, you’ll already have them on hand.

Another reason to overpack is because you never know when baby will have a blowout or other “uh-oh” moment. Having a few extra outfits allows you to keep baby comfy while you practice changing diapers.

Don’t feel awkward if you overpack. Remember, it’s best to be more prepared than not prepared enough.
