As a couple, you can sometimes find that you are spending all of your time focusing on your kids, while this might be admirable to the outside world, it can actually take its toll on your relationship. You don’t have the time you need together to forge deeper bonds.
Fortunately, this guide is here to help. We look at some of the ways you can enjoy your time with your partner when you are away from the kids. Here’s what to do:
Plan a romantic dinner
One of the first things you can do is plan a romantic dinner at a new restaurant. You could also try a new spot that you haven’t been to before. Going out for proper adult food is a wonderful experience, and you are no longer having to navigate menus with only pizza and chicken nuggets on them.
You also have time to have a proper conversation with your partner, perhaps with some wine. This relaxes both of you and allows you to get back into the old energy you had before kids came along and all the responsibilities that come with them.
Take a scenic walk hand-in-hand

Another thing you might want to do is take a scenic walk hand-in-hand. You could stroll by the beach or go on a neighborhood trail.
You should also focus on talking about non-kid topics. This could be anything from your independent travel plans to expressing your emotions for each other. It can all go a long way.
Go for a couple’s night
Another thing you might want to look at are couples night specials and packages. These essentially do all of the logistics and heavy lifting for you so you don’t have to do any planning. All you need to do is turn up, and everything’s done for you by the entertainers.
There are all sorts of examples of different packages that you could try. So do some exploring, figure out what’s right for you and your partner.
Book a weekend getaway
If you can pass kids over to minders or other family members, then you might want to book a weekend getaway. This really gives you the space you need to connect as a couple. You don’t need to invest in any exotic travel; a simple weekend in a hotel or a B&B can be a great experience for both of you. Make sure you mix it with plenty of physical activity and enjoy some time where you can sleep in. If possible, try to cut contact with home so you really have some time by yourselves. Grandparents are a great option in this particular case.
Enjoy an at-home date night
Finally, once the kids are in bed, you might want to look at enjoying an at-home date night. You could all take out and light some candles, and cuddle up for a movie afterwards. Just make sure that it’s low effort in terms of how much organizing you need to do, but high on intimacy.
