Read the full review here

We all know and love Gerber. They have been providing us with wonderful food, table wear and clothing for years. It’s a brand we can trust and have grown to love. Recently Gerber has released a line of All-In-One cloth diapers. These easy to use cloth diapers make switching from disposables to cloth easy. Not only will you save money with cloth diapers but you will help keep diapers out of landfills, thousands and thousands of diapers which take (we think) up to 500 years to fully disintegrate! Help your child, your pocket book and your world buy making the switch to disposable diapers.

Gerber All-In-One Cloth Diapers Review

Gerber All-In-One Cloth Diapers Review

Gerber All-in-One Diaper with Insert Starter Set is innovatively designed to be less bulky and easy for moms to use. Easily adjusts to perfectly fit your baby. Ideal for everyday and nighttime use. Gerber’s diaper system is reusable, sustainable and affordable.

Gerber now is making All-In-One Cloth Diapers (AIO’s). Being new to cloth myself, when I used to think of cloth diapers, I would think of the big flat white pieces of cloth which Gerber was a main seller of (which are still available and great). These were the diapers I wore as a baby for my first few months….that is until my mother gave up and switched to disposables. Some people still choose to use the flat cloth with pins, but structured diapers are now what most parents who cloth choose to use.

Gerber, being a giant in the baby industry, has a lot of pull in what is placed in front of the consumers. With massive sway in big box stores and retailers, they are now placing their cloth diapers on shelves of stores where the public is able to see it’s availability. People joke that the cloth diaper world is like a cult and sucks you in. Well, is sorta of does! If Gerber can get a good, quality, easy to use, snap AIO diaper on the market, it will be one more step in making cloth diapers main stream. Now, we hope that Gerber can pull it off!

Just like all companies, Gerber listens to their customers. Adjusting and tweaking a product to perfection helps make customers happy and makes them want to keep buying their products. I will review their AIO and weigh the pro’s and con’s.cut fact sheet

Interview with Gerber:

I was able to chat with a integral member of the Gerber team about the design and thought process behind their new AIO. Here are some of the nuggets from our discussion.

When we started designing this diaper over two years ago, we had 3 goals in mind.
1) We wanted a trim diaper that would fit under pants…
We decided upon the sized option since it was the easiest way for us to keep the diaper both trim and affordable. The hook and loop was chosen because it helped us to keep the diaper at a lower price point while also making it easier for beginners to use. We found that a lot of people who had never used cloth diapers before were intimidated by them and we wanted to make sure this diaper would be super easy to help them get started.
2) A diaper that was made with natural materials and still super absorbent…
This is where we turned to Cotton INC and started working with their TransDRY™ technology. This 100% cotton fabric is specially designed to wick away moisture into the absorbent core (which is not cotton, just the lining. We are trying to be upfront about that so as to avoid confusion or people feeling mislead!) of the diaper to help keep babies skin dry and prevent leaks. Because of this special fabric you will see the wash instructions on the packaging say warm water and no bleach. Hot water and bleach can strip away the TransDRY™ abilities of the cotton and reduce it’s ability to wick away the moisture as effectively.
3) A diaper that could be sold at an affordable price point…
We wanted a diaper that worked well, fit well and was affordable and that is what we are providing. We have carefully listened to all the feedback that everyone has given us about our first diaper release and have made several tweaks to the design. Our second wave of diapers should be in production shortly, and we feel that it resolves the issues that people expressed to us about the first release. We are considering snap and one size variations of our diaper for possible future release as well, but do not have any solid answers as to when they could be available.
What makes Gerber’s AIO Different?
For starters, our all-in-one is a hybrid design. Not only is it able to be used as an aio, but it has the ability to add extra absorbency for heavy wetters or night time use. It’s very flexible and that can really be handy for mom’s who are diapering more than one child at a time.
Secondly, it’s also one of the few diapers on the market to offer a cotton lining. It was very important to us that the diaper have a natural fabric against babies skin, but it also needed to wick away the moisture because cotton is not necessarily a “stay dry” fabric. We were fortunate to be able to use Cotton INC’s TransDRY™ technology to help us solve this problem. We have tested and redesigned this diaper so many times that we have lost count, but the design we finally released to market has done an amazing job of holding everything in and keeping baby safe from leaks! Another unique leak prevention feature of our diaper is the front and back flaps/gussets that are part of our patent pending design. We added these to help catch waste and make this diaper even more secure as far as “blowouts” go!
Finally, our diaper is one of the most trim diapers currently available on the market. We know that a lot of cloth diapering parents give up on the idea of putting pants over cloth entirely, and while that may work well in warmer climates, cold weather makes pants a necessity. We wanted a diaper that could easily be worn with cute outfits and that bodysuits would snap over with no problem. We feel that this diaper accomplishes this mission.
Washing/Prep Instructions: (From Package)

Before first use: Wash in warm water (avoid using hot as it can strip away the TransDRY™)
Wash: Dispose of solids and store diaper in dry pail. Machine wash warm. Do not use fabric softeners, chlorine bleach or non-chlorine bleach. (Now I realize that if a diaper accidentally ends up moldy or for some other reason needs stripped, then bleach tends to be a necessary evil. It won’t destroy the diaper, but it will effect the wicking and possibly the overall longevity of the PUL.) Tumble dry low. Do not use dryer sheets. Do not iron. Recommend not to use with rash cream. (I know there are a lot out there that are cloth safe now, but use with caution and do your research before choosing one!)

Mama’s Experience:

Pros
  1. Easy to put on. With a wiggly baby/toddler, easy is of up-most importance. They use the hook and loop closure to make changing easy.
  2. Easy installation of extra insert. Their inserts simply slide into a pocket.
  3. Keeps solids in. Because of how the sides curl it helps reinforce and keeps solids in. My child who wore the diaper is walking, so I am not sure if a crawling baby would make a difference in the shifting.
  4. Inserts wick away moisture. Their transDRY technology woven into lining pulls moisture away from baby’s skin.
  5. Deep sides. I love that the sides are super deep. I feel like it will keep solids in better. I like how it curls up all around the liner to give me the feeling of security. This also helps with skinny legged kids. My son has very skinny legs and will leak out of some competitors leg holes. My son has never leaked out the leg hole of a Gerber! woot woot!!
  6. Cute colors. We love to have cute fluff butts! They I hope they come out with fun patterns next!

Cons
  1. Hook and loop pulls fabric. Before I was even able to prep the diaper the velcro started to pull the a fabric that is close to its base. I was saddened by this. I believe it is due to the fabric shell material. Its not horrible by any means, but all pulling is sad. The pulling has not effected the actual diaper. It functions the same, it is only an ascetic thing.
  2. Hard to unvelcro during changes. I seemed to have a hard time pulling the velcro apart with one hand. If I pull it apart ahead of time it seemed to naturally curl back together while taking off his dirty diaper before I had a chance to put it on him. This made it more difficult to change the diapers, but only slightly.

****UPDATE**** I spoke with Gerber and the cons I mentioned above are being addressed. They are working on a new design! Way to be Gerber! We appreciate you listening to our voice.

silverware

My children are 1 and 2. My 2 year old is getting better at her table manners, but let’s be honest, she has a lot to learn still. She is still working on her fine motor skills and holding a utensil with grace is a refined skill. NUK/Gerber have developed a set of utensils that are safe for a child to use, easy to hold in an economical fashion and have a nifty rest to help the child set the utensil down without getting the tip dirty. The Kiddy Cuterly Set is everything you want in a beginner utensil. Its safe, it picks up feed and it makes your life easier.

My kids are crazy eaters. They will throw bowls and food alike like candy off a float in a parade; with enthusiasm and excitement! Too bad we don’t have dogs to clean up the sloppy, not-candy laden floor. I am not a fan of wiping my floor down like Cinderella 3 to 4 times a day. Thankfully, NUK/Gerber have made the perfect bowl for my kids, their Tri-Suction Bowls.  They easily cling to a table or high chair so that the child is not able to pick it up and toss it across the room. It stays where the parent places it! Eureka! Go buy this bowl, like now.

  • 100% silicone mat always lays flat
  • Bowl compartment fits standard sippy cup

mat combo

The MealMat is a super versatile mat for meal time. You can use it at home as a plate replacement. Being a thinner solid piece of plastic is it more difficult for a child to pick up and toss on the floor. The best use of it is as an on-the-go plate for visiting restaurants and friends/families houses. It comes in a neat and sleek carrying case. You can stick it into a diaper bag and be on your way. Being that is has a solid carrying case, when the post meal melt down comes you do not have to worry about cleaning it there, you can fold it in half and pop it in the case and clean it at home. Going on vacation this summer? You should definatly pick one of these MealMats up.
